Portable Generator [Merged threads. Please respond here for further discussion]

can i reliably run a 225volt welder on a 17500watt Generac portable generator?

the welder is a 225vAC/125vDC Lincoln stick welder with output range: 40-225amps AC and 30-125amps DC

this generator is rated at 63 amps @ 240 volts, i would hope that this is plenty enough juice to handle the load from this welder?

By the numbers the generator should be able to handle it. Looking at the Lincoln website that welder lists 50amps for the input and the 63 amps from your generator should give you some safety margin.

My PTO generator handles sudden heavy loads much better than my stand alone generators. I think the extra mass of all the spinning parts in the transmissions and shafts stores engough energy to help handle sudden loads.
