Kohler 19hp spark but no start...Please help
Relatively newer lawnmower with little use. Since new, it's always cranked for quite a while before starting. After sitting this winter used starting spray and it started but wouldn't keep running. After several attempts with spray, it finally quit starting at all even with spray. I have spark. I did get a strange sound possibly a backfire once. It seems to have good compression. Grass growing and wife pressing. Any help very much appreciated.

Kinda sounds like a sheared flywheel key to me. I'd check... I've been seeing that lately on kohlers.

Cheese.....You nailed it!
Removed flywheel cover and the key is definitely sheared. Now....How to remove flywheel? Applied penetrating oil and pried enough to determine that it is on there good. Will look around online....anyone having advice....thanks. God Bless You!

Using a block of wood, hit the carnkshaft with a hammer a couple of times. It should pop right off.

One other thing......
I might have not torqued the flywheel nut sufficiently. Also, (like a dummy) I put a little oil on the inside of the flywheel. I now realize I might have "encouraged" the flywheel to slip. Anyone know the proper ft.lbs. of torque for the flywheel nut? I predict that when the engine started and began to rev, the flywheel couldn't keep up and sheared? The nut was not very tight after this happened. Any ideas? thnaks again

Yep, the flywheel bolt should be very tight and the mating surfaces should be clean and dry with no oil or grease. I don't have the torque specs on hand this moment, but I use an impact gun to tighten them.
