Cost of installling new cam in B&S 18.5 HP Intek on Craftsman Rider

What should the charges be to replace a cam in a B&S Intek 18.5 HP powering a Craftsman rider ?? The starter wont turn the engine over. I am hoping it is just a valve adjustment however lately I have been reading on this forum where the lobe on the cam has been found to be worn on this engine.

Adjust the valves before you do anything. The decompresser on the cam opens the exhaust valve when it cranks it is real sensitive to proper valve adjustment.

I think it's the intake valve on those engines that has the release.

I agree, if it hasn't had the valves adjusted yearly, then that's most likely the problem. A worn cam will exhibit other problems. Usually a cam swap on that engine runs around $250 at my shop.
