Poulan Chain Saw stalls on revving

I bought a used Poulan 1950 saw. When I got it it would only idel for about a minute before stalling, so I tried adjusting the carb. I think that was a mistake, because now I have a new problem. It starts up fine and idles, but when I press the trigger to get ready to start cutting, I get a sort of "pop" from the carb and it dies. Sometimes if I squeeze the trigger really fast it will keep running, but if I do a nice steady squeeze I get pop-die.
I did not adjust anything on the carb other than the idle speed screw
Any ideas? I already checked that carb and filter were clean.

Check fuel lines and primer for holes/cracks. If none, take the carb off and clean it.
