Acceleration Problem - Troy Bilt 60TP

I have a Troy Bilt 60TP (50") tractor which has started to develop acceleration problems. No matter how hard I press the throttle, the mower will not speed up.

I don't have this problem on my other Troy Bilt, which is a Super Bronco (but this one has a steering issue for which I am awaiting parts for repair).

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this - could it be a problem with the vari-drive or something similar?

It probably is something to do with the varidrive. It could be belts, linkage problems, springs, etc... These mowers are very trouble prone and there are a lot of problem areas, so there's no particular place I can point you to right off the bat. Check the belts first and then make sure the pedal is moving the varidrive pulley.
