Engine Oil vs Gear Oil vs Transmission Oil
My Sutech Stealth 33" Commercial Mower service manual states the following with regards to oil:
Oil Any good quality SAE 30 oil
• Belt Guide Rollers (2 under belt cover)
• Pivot Point on all operational controls (breaks, shift lever,
blade driver lever and presence controls)
• Transmission oil – check level in sight glass – add if
required.
• Caster Yoke Height Adjustment Spacers
Specifically, I am attempting to locate the proper replacement oil for the transmission case. The term "transmission oil" doesn't appear to be an industry standard and I certainly can't find anything relating to SAE 30. Would they be referring to gear oil? Maybe I can simply use a standard SAE 30 engine oil? The transmission case does not really get all that hot as it is located behind and separate from the Briggs & Stratton engine and simply transfers the power from the engine to the rear wheels.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks!

To me that would mean any SAE 30 oil, which is engine oil if you use it in the engine and transmission oil if in the tranny
Transmission "fluid" would not be the same and is hydraulic fluid which is a completely different animal all together.
Your engine likely calls for SAE 30W too.
