Toro Recycler Lawnmower Blade Clutch Question

hello,

I own a 1991 Toro Recycler lawnmower (model 20106) with a blade clutch. The problem is the blade won't stay engaged. The blade is engaged via a cable connected to the brake clutch and a lever on the mower handle. the lever engages the blade by pushing down on the lever (cocking) and then raising the lever to the middle position. The blade engages when I do this, but then the cable releases and disengages the blade just as I get the lever into the middle position. Any ideas how to fix this? Any help appreciated. thanks you mross

Sounds like your linkage has loosened up with age. Tighten any bolts involved in the linkage and if you find any worn places shim them tight. Also check where the handle cocks in the center position to be sure that area is not worn or has moved. There may be an adjustment possible there.
