Ryobi design problem

I have a Ryobi EX26 String Trimmer. I normally hold the throttle handle in my right hand and the pole grip in my left hand. It has been shutting down on me lately until I figured out the problem. On the left hand side of the motor, pointing towards my right hip is the choke/run lever for the carb. Evidently during normal cutting etc, this lever is contacting my hip and moving this lever to the full choke position.....shutting down the motor Looks like I am either going to have to cut this choke/run lever off even with the housing (creating a problem dinking with the lever inside the motor cover when starting) or ???? This lever sticks out about 3/8" past the housing. Any suggestions appreciated.

Could you fabricate some type of guard over or around it to keep it from contacting your hip? Maybe something made from a piece of PVC pipe or ??
