did you fix it? was it the carb as was suggested?

Messed up replacing starter solenoid

When replacing the starter solenoid in my TroyBilt riding mower, I attached the "green" wire to the 12 volt line. The result was smoke coming from around the flywheel area. Now, the engine cranks but does not run; its like its not getting a spark. The motor is a B&S ELS500, 18.5hp, model 31Q777-0215-E1. I've replaced the coil (appeared to have gotten hot) and I'm going to pull the flywheel to see if I can spot anything burned. There are 2 wires coming from under the flywheel - they read open. Also neither side is shorted to ground. Since I do not have a wiring diagram, is there anything I need to be looking for (other than burned components)? Also, what is the gap for the coil?Read More

Uneven mowing

I have a 1995 craftsman 42" mower model # 917.256520 thats mowing uneven - one blad cuts higher then the other. It looks like the mower itslef is tilted. I havent put on blocks to get under it yet but my assumption is that there are bushings of some time that may have given out. Is this a common problem? Anyone have other thoughts idea's?Read More
