Kohler Fuel Solenoid

I have a Kohler 20HP Courage Engine that wont start. What is interesting is that the fuel solenoid gets very hot even if the key has been on for a short while. Sounds to me like this may be the problem. The question is why is it getting so hot ?? As I understand it it is just an electro magnet. As always thanks in advance.

Do you hear the seloniod click when you turn the key on and off? If the plunger is stuck in the off position, it will not click, it will block fuel, preventing starting. Also, an electromagnet will get hot when it's trying to do a job (pull in the plunger) and failing to do so.

The solenoig will get hot fairly quickly... that is normal. It doesn't mean it is or isn't working, but it does mean it is getting power and completing the circuit.
