John Deere lawn tractor will not turn over

I have a 1988 John Deere 260 that will not turn over. I think it is a safety switch in the shifter/ trans as during last weeks mowing if I put the tractor in nuetral and shut the blades off it would stall as soon as I got off the seat. Like it did not recognize that it was in nuetral. To start it I could wiggle the shifter and it would turn over. Now this will not work. With the key on I can hear the relay activate when I push on the seat or flip the mower engage switch. I stopped at the dealer and they show no switch for the shifter, could it be in the trans?? Thank you

Usually deere neutral safety switches screw into the top of the tranny.

Thank you. I tore it aprat this morning and found the switch. One of the wires had come out of the holder. Bent the tab and cleaned the terminals...back on the grass.

Thanks,
