chainsaw bar oil

Is there an alternete to the name brand chainsaw bar oil our can you use 30 wt oil

I use off brand chain bar oil . . . usually buy it HD or Lowe’s. Avoid using motor oil as it has low viscosity (lacks stickiness to cling to bar & chain), and you’ll burn the chain thereby shortening its useful life.

Some people have said they use oil drained from their car or mower...seems like a bad idea to me. Used oil has all the wear particles from the engine it was used in.

Bar oil can be found many places..often on discount when out of season. Buy a gallon and yer set for a long time.
