Craftsman rider that wont stay running

i have a late 90's model craftsman riding mower that i am having trouble with. i dont have the numbers handy on it but it is a 19hp, 42" cut, hydro model. it will start right up no problem and runs fine. the minute you try to engage the blades or try to move it it shuts right off. i am pretty handy at fixing things but this one has me stumped. any one have any clues at what it might be. i would appreciate any advice.

Sounds like you have a faulty seat switch, There's also a small nub inside the switch connector plug that's a switch as well. Make sure the seat switch plug is pushed on the switch tightly.

The seat switch can be tested with a multimeter set to ohm's scale, Put a test lead on each switch post then push the center of the seat down. Your meter should show a opening/closing circuit as the seat is pushed and released.

Good Luck
