Kohler CV730S-0017 Running Rich

How is it possible for an engine with no air/fuel mixture setting to run rich? The butterfly is wide open, and it used to run fine.
Any ideas?

They can run rich if the air filter is really dirty.

Also from a non-seating float needle valve due to trash under it or just being worn. And, There could be a pin hole developed in the accelerator pump diaphragm....

When the throttle control is moved from slow to fast speed it shoots a little extra fuel into the carb venturi area. This reduces stumble on throttle up.

If a pin hole develops in this diaphragm engine vacuum in the venturi can pull constant extra fuel, This can cause a rich running condition.
