won't stay running

i have a McCulloch 3516 chainsaw that would not stay running and i found a broken fuel line. i replaced with new hose. it ran but would only stay running if i pressed the primmer bulb every few minutes. after reading post here i relized i had the two lines backwards on the bulb. now after switching the hose's the engine starts but dies out during throttle. could i have damaged the carb. using cleaner. also not sure if i have the two lines going to the carb crossed as well. the one from the tank & filter is going to the throttle cable side of carb and the one from the bulb going to left side or the side with the adjustment screws. i can press the bulb a see fuel being pulled into the carb.

Fuel should be pulled into the carb when you release the primer. Fuel should shoot back into the tank when you press the primer. Sounds like your carb needs cleaning.

cheese, yes that's correct, when i press the bulb gas & bubbles go from the bulb into the tank, when i release the bulb gas & bubbles go from the carb to the bulb. the engine starts and runs ok for a minute then dogs out on trottle. should i replace the gasket? it didn't look damaged. it seems like the carb is not pulling enough fuel. could an air leak around the gasket or weak diaphram in carb cause this? i will throughly clean the carb and test. thanks so much for your assistance!

Could be an air leak, but it is probably the carb needing to be taken apart and cleaned.
