Poulan / Weedeater GTI 17 Trimmer fuel line help
My fuel line rotted away so I replaced it. It goes from the carb, thru a hole in the bottom of the fuel tank, and into the fuel filter assy which apparently just bounces around inside the tank. From reading on the 'net it seems that the only seal around the fuel line where it goes into the tank is just from the fact that the fuel line swells enough to form a seal.
Mine didn't.
What am I missing? Is there some fuel-resistant goop I should use on the outside to seal it?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.

Generally it is just the OD of the fuel line that seals, it shouldn't swell.
If the line was easy to feed through the hole, the fuel line may too small OD.

Coincidentally, I replaced the fuel line and filter on one of these GTI 17 Weedeaters a couple of weeks ago.
In my hobby of OPE repair, there are 3 sizes of the yellow tygon fuel line I use for repairing 2-cycle units, i.e., line trimmers, chainsaws, etc.
The middle size is (B)-3/16 OD X 3/32 ID, the larger size is (C)-1/4 OD X 3/32 ID, and then there is the (A)-smaller size.
Cheese, Geogrubb or others could tell you the dimensions of the smaller size.
On the GTI 17 I repaired, I came off the carb with the (B) size above. I pulled the smaller (A) size with the fuel filter thru the tank.
The smaller size was snug enough in the tank hole to provide a seal.
Then I coupled the two lines together with a small plastic coupler fitting.
Most of the old green GTI type weedeaters had the gas tank hole coming out the bottom, this unit has the hole right above the tank's left mounting hole, hidden from view when the unit is completely assembled.
It takes some patience to get the lines the right length, so as to not have excess.
If you haven't already, this is a good time to disassemble and clean the carb.
I've found these older type weedeaters run best with both the L and H turned out 1 turn each.
