Craftsman Rider - Noisy Deck

I have a craftsman rider model 917-272759 in the shop with a noisy deck. Sounds like it is coming from passenger side. I removed deck, removed mandrel, top bearing seems good, lower bearing has a little play with the shaft in but not much. Bearing makes a little noise when spinning it. Also before I removed mandrel blade/mandrel assy was hard to turn, after removal the assy is now easy to turn. The blade brakes are clear when blades are engaged. How can you tell if bearing is bad if there is just a real small wobble - thanks in advance.

Hello jl66redcpe,

You answered your own question with the above, Any play or noise in a bearing will be amplified once a load is applied. Replace both bearings while your in it and call it a day, There's no telling how soon the top will start making noise then it will need to be tore down again.

Good Luck
