Riding mower engine won't stop!

I have a Craftsman riding mower with a 42" deck & a 15.5 HP Kohler engine. I'm not sure how old it is as I bought it used. The mower starts & runs fine, the problem is that it doesn't want to shut off! When I move the key to the off position, the engine will slow down like its going to die, then when its almost stopped will pick back up again. It repeats this cycle over & over again & won't stop running. To kill it I have been pulling the spark plug wire. The mower model number is 917.259556. Any input on whats going on here will be appreciated!

The kill is just a grounding of the ignition module through the key, which provides the circuit break/continuity to ground. There is a break in the circuit from the module kill wire through the key to the ground somewhere. It's probably in the ignition switch itself, but could be anywhere.

If you trace the wires out of the switch both ways and clean the connections, try it, and if still a problem, replace the ignition switch, it should take care of it.
