Question Kohler 730S-0017 Black Smoke

Help! Under almost any load, or high RPM, engine blowing alot of black smoke. Had carb rebuilt, accelerator pump rebuilt, plugs, ignition coils replaced. Still blows black smoke and can't handle a load.
The only part modified was the plunger taken out of the broken fuel shutoff solenoid.
I then plugged it with a screw (I thought for safety to keep gas out). It wouldn't run at all so I removed screw.
I'm at a loss. Is there any way the solenoid without plunger could be causing this?
What would the experts check next?

Did you thread the screw into the carb to plug it?

Yes, I tapped it and made the screw flush with the end of the solenoid (so it wouldn't protrude out). Bad?

Not in the carb, but solenoid.

Ok well that better but still not going to work as you found out apparently.
Have you checked your oil level and smelled it for gas?
Go Here and see if you can locate your engine and manual.
If not list the family of your engine, command, courage, magnum etc. and HP as well as what equipment it is on.

One thing I find odd is if the fuel shutoff solenoid is plugged, with nothing protruding past the end, why it won't run. It would seem like once the plunger is energized and retracted, the effect would be the same.

I really do appreciate your help!
