Ariens 8.5 hp ST5520 Won't Pull Start

My Arien's doesn't seem to want to pull start. Will start fine with the electric starter, but but won't start with the rope. It's a Briggs & Stratton engine.

Thanks,

Paul

It's probably that you are not pulling the cord fast enough. The engine has to be turning a minimum rpm to create enough draw through the carburetor, get good compression and generate a proper spark.

Pulling as hard and fast as I can, but still no luck. Will pull start after it's warmed up after electric start, but nothing cold.

It's probably the oil being thick from being cold, you might change to a 5W30 or 10W30 oil which would make it easier to turn over when cold. Mine has straight 30W with no electric start and I must give it a shot of starter fluid as a helper because I can't turn it very fast when cold and it is just a 5hp. Have a good one. Geo
