gas leaking from carb

I purchased a 1960 Johnson 3hp Seahorse outboard boat motor. It is in very good condition with maybe only 15 hours of use on it. I replaced the ignition coils, spark plugs cleaned the gas tank but I can't get it to start. I am getting fire and it has good compression but every time after I get done pulling on it to try to start it gas starts leaking gas from the carb. Any suggestions why I can't get it to start and why the gas is coming from the carb? I was told that it ran a year ago for a couple of hours. Thank for your help.

Sounds like the carb needs to be removed and cleaned at the least, rebuilding the carb may be necessary.
