Ryobi Cultivator tines don't rotate when digging

I have a Ryobi RY60511A cultivator that will run fine but the tines don't rotate with the power they should have. The unit will basically walk across the ground powered by the tines but as soon as I try to make it dig into the ground, the tines just grind to a halt. I'm thinking it's something with the drive unit but am looking for some opinions before I start tearing things apart.

Those usually have a centrifugal clutch and it sounds like the friction material on it is getting worn down too far or it's had oil leaked on it.

Another thing, Mike, it could be sheared drive pins on the tines. They will work for a short time off friction, but when you dig, they fail. Just something else to check out. Oh, welcome to the forums!!

Piston stuck on middle ring inside cylinder after trying to re-install it.

I've taken the piston out of the cylinder to check everything. I used a hose clamp around the 3 rings to compress them and it slide right back in no problem. I then realized that I hadn't aligned the gaps in the piston rings properly and had to take it back out again to fix that. I tried to install it the same way and some how got stuck on the middle ring. I couldn't push it in or out but it would spin freely. I then tried tapping on it with a rubber mallet to see if it would move in or out. I didn't budge, but now it is completely stuck...it won't even spin inside the cylinder. It's an aluminum block so I am afraid to damage it by being too rough...perhaps I've already damaged it now that the piston is stuck? What can I do here? :wall:Read More

I am in need of assistance in removing the cutting head assembly from my WT3100 trimmer. I am replacing the clutch housing and discovered the cutting head has been banged up pretty bad so thought I'd better replace it too. But for the life of me I can't figure out how to get the darn thing off. There is a nut that appears to be part of the dust cup but it would seem I'd need a special wrench to get to it between the shield and cutting head. Any suggestions??
