Slipped belt on Craftsman lawn tractor

The belt that engages/disengages the blade on my Craftsman 19.5 hp, 42 hp lawn tractor has slipped off one of idler pulleys. There is a belt pulley guard attached to the pulley; I cannot place the belt back onto the pulley with the guard in the way.

Detailed diagram in owner's manual, but no instructions! Do I approach form the top or bottom of the pulley? How do I keep the pulley form moving when trying to loosen flange nuts?

The belt can be installed on all the deck pulleys without taking anything off. Just pop the belt in between the guide and the pulley.
