I just cleaned and put a carb kit in a Tecumseh 632370 and have a problem with needle and seat. With the bowl off I get the gas flowing fine,but as soon as I install the bowl I get no gas. I put in a new seat and pushed it all the way down. After having the "no gas" problem I tried bending the tab that holds the wire for the needle all the way down and still the same problem. What is the best way to get the seat back out to see if it is in correctly. Anybody have any other solutions on what to do?

I bought and older engine off of ebay for the purpose of learning about small engines. It wont start so i pulled off the fly wheel and when i took off the cover for the points and condenssor there was a orange powder like substance all over the inside of it. should i replace the points and condenssor set? Sorry, I'm no xpert. Do you have any applications for which you'd like to use your motor? U-tube has some fun videos of people who've mounted lawnmower engines on old outboards. Lots of gadgets can be powered by a small engine--- do you have any applications in mind? Replacing the points/condenser will be a good place to start in learning about these engines. I believe the points/condenser are still readily available. hth Thanks guys but do you think the condenssor and points are shot because of the orange powder i found inside the case? IT almost looked like battery acid Can you post a pic of the orange powdery stuff and where you found it or did you already clean the case up? Actually guys i just went back over everything and cleaned it all up. I sanded the connection between points and condenssor, set the gap at .02, and cleaned the plunger. I put the flywheel back on and shes got spark! it felt like a weaker spark though im not sure how to tell how strong it should be If it' strong enough to see the spark, it's strong enough. I could see spark but not every time i think that was because the wire was loose on the spark plug That orange powdery stuff could be a lot of things, from rust, to pollen from where ever this engine was last used. Remember there is a lot of air blowing around inside thes motors when they are running. If you can see the spark, then you are in good shape. Keep us posted with your progress. IT almost looked like battery acid[/QUOTE] I would guess the orange powder is cam lube for the points that has deteroriated over the years, a little moisture mixed with cheap lube. I have found similar stuff inside a boat motor that had set for a long time. Have a good one. Geo Thanks geo and joe. Well i lapped the valves and they seem to be seating very nicely. I have a feeling i might have to replace the rings. If i put my finger over the breather tube and turn the motor over the compression comes from the crank case and kind of bubbles up through the cylinder. It only does that when you close off the breather. I know that the breather takes the excess compression and shoots it back through the carb but would it be normal for it to go through the cylinder when you close the breather off? Well guys i finally had some time to finish working on the motor. I got everything cleaned up and put back together. She started up in a couple of pulls and ran for about 30 seconds and then died. After that gas started overfilling the carburetor. It just kept sucking up gas from the tank and wouldnt stop?? It filled up so much that it ran through the breather and into the oil. What would cause that? The needle valve in the carb is not seating. It could be a bad needle, seat, or float with gas in it. Shake the float near your ear. If you hear gas sloshing in it, it is bad. Thanks but it has the pulsa jet carb on it. That's what I assumed it had to begin with until you said fuel was running out of it after it shut off. I have never seen a pulsajet do that. I suppose if the gas tank got pressurized this could happen. I tried taking off the gas cap and it still did the same thing. What would cause so much pressure in the gas tank? Any ideas guys why this thing would flood? I am ready to get this thing running and try it out So gas is flooding up through the carb and into the engine after it died? And even with the gas cap off? I don't see that as possible. If the engine is not turning, the gas tank is below the carb, so the gas would have to move upwards to the carb in order to flood it. If the tank is not pressurized and the engine is not turning to allow the pump to pump fuel, there is no way for it to be overflowing the carb. I guess I'm misunderstanding the problem. Cheese i am just as confused as you are. With the motor off, gas cap off the carb was flooding. Ive got a 5 hp briggs horizontal shaft engine that runs pretty good at times but other times it struggles to idle and hesitates when you rev it up. When i turn it off gas keeps coming up through the pick up tube and floods the inside of the carb and if im not careful runs through the breather tube and floods the oil. What would cause the gas to continue to be pulled from the gas tank into the engine when it is off? I am thinking maybe the diaphram but i am not sure Thanks in advance Take a look at your gas cap and make sure the vent isn't plugged with debris..... I checked that and it seemed to be clear. I will try blowing it out with air later. Would that have anything to do with the way it was running? its weird at times it runs real good then others it just runs kind a crappy It very well could........................ Post the model, type and code usually found on the engine shroud just above the spark plug or above the muffler would help us a bunch. Have a good one. Geo Ive posted about this before but I left it alone for a while over the winter. I decided I wanted to mess with it again. The problem is after the motor is turned off the carb continues to suck gas from the tank into the carb and it floods and floods so badly that it goes through the b reather into the crank case. It is an older briggs 79 i think. So it has the old style pull choke carbs. What would cause this. Im thinking about buying a new diaphram and tank gasket.
