craftsman gas lawn trimmer

I have an OLDER trimmer, we had to replace the fuel lines in the tank, the bulb is now getting fuel, it still doesn't want to start even with starter fluid. I did notice, the lid to the gas tank has in the middle, a small check valve I believe that is fine until I pump the bulb for fuel then I get a good leak from the lid..check valve, then it doesn't start...thank you in advance if anyone can help.

Check to see if it is sparking.

Also check the compression with a gauge, must be at least 90# of compression or better to run.I like it to be 120#.Hope this helps.
