Craftsman tracter backfires and quits

I have a craftsman lawn tracter 14.0 HP OHV. model #917.255692. Kholer engine model #cv 14 type #PS1445. The engine will start and run for a few min. and then start to quit and then backfire a few times and quit. Let it set for a while and it will startup but do the same thing again. please help

Check the valve spacings specs. if need be, adjust. Check out Youtube for how its done. When shown on video its not that tough of a task.

Try running it with the gas cap loose it my not be venting properly. Have a good one. Geo

I'd suspect the gas cap or otherwise insufficient fuel flow. The valves on this engine are not adjustable.

OK the last time I used the tracter it was low on oil. I added oil. I checked the oil again today and it was over filled. I drained the excess oil. It started and finished cutting lawn. It did sputter a little at the end. Could this have been the problem. and if so is there anything I should do.

Any other ideas. I start the tractor up it runs fine for about 10 minutes and then starts to backfire through the carb. and quits.

Purpose of selenoid on the bottom of a carb, B&S on a Rider Mower ?

Hi Gang. The Toro HXL 16-38 16 HP OHV briggs adn Stratton that dies after 15 -20 minutes of mowing continues to do so. Gas good, new plug, valves adjusted and proper, new carb, oil level good. What is the purpose of the selenoid at the bottom of the carb? If I unplg the wire connected to it, whats the likely result if I run the mower? When it begins to die, I stop the blades and it runs just fine, when I engage them again it wants to die again. The switch for the blades if engaged wont allow the engine to start, which is proper. Wheel Horse Mower w/ Kohler Engine Problem

I just bought an older Wheel Horse riding mower w/ a Kohler CV16S (V-twin w/ Nikki carb). It has been running rough and one hole is oiling. I plan to rebuild it this winter if it will wait. Today it will run only with full choke and low throttle. At full speed and full choke it starts ok and then dies. It will not start or run at all with less than full choke.
