Chipper Engine Runs, loses RPMs then revs back up

I have a, well, rather old, 8 HP Troy Bilt chipper/shredder. Briggs engine. It starts up fine, runs a bit, then loses RPMs, then revs back up. It does this about every 2 or 3 minutes on a bad day.

I had a local guy look at the problem a while back - he says he rebuilt the carb and replaced the fuel line and a few other standard tune-up things. It fixed the problem for about a year and now its back.

Any ideas out there? This is a fine machine but for this perplexing problem.

Post the engine model, type and code usually stamped in the engine shroudd just above the spark plug. Have a good one. Geo

There is a screw coming out from the bottom of the carburetor bowl. Try backing it out 1/8 turn or so.

Turned the screw and it seems to have worked. I'll know more when I run it tomorrow for a longer period and put some load on it.

Thanks, Cheese!

Last update (I hope) - used the chipper for an hour today and it ran like a charm. Thanks so much cheese!
