13 HP Kohler Command Vertical
My Toro lawn tractor transmission is shot, and rather than buy a new one I bought a bigger tractor. So I have a nearly new 13 HP Kohler Command Vertical shaft engine to spare. It was a hydrostatic drive, so there are a couple pulleys under the tractor frame to take power off the running engine.
It can power a log splitter, a chipper/shredder, an air compressor, or even a generator I would guess, but most of those things like horizontal shaft motors. It could power a towed rotary mower if mounted securely.
Does anyone have any advice or experience to share as far as making use of this strong little engine. I'm most interested in a log splitter or chipper/shredder but haven't found any model that will accept a vertical shaft engine or a V-belt.
Any advice on how to use this engine?
Thanks,
Antifa

There are lots of hydraulic pumps that will run with a vertical shaft. You could couple the engine to one with belts and pulleys for ease of assembly, and plumb it to the splitter hydraulics easily.
