I have a troybuilt rototiller and is leaking gear oil from the tine shaft seal which is metal, does anybody know how to remove a metal oil seal?

Rick, the body of the oil seal is metal, as the vast majority are, but the seal is rubber with, of course, a shape spring. Removal, without a seal removal tool, will be a pry method. Take a pointed, but blunt, probe and insert it between the rubber lip of the seal's ID and the surface to which it provides a seal and then find a fulcrum point and pry it out. Be very, very careful not to damage the surface of the shaft which is being sealed. Very, very, very careful!!! A seal removal tool is best. These such tap (thread) into the seal (over the shaft) and then use a screw to butt up against the shaft and pulls out the oil seal.
