Craftsman Riding Mower with B&S engine.

Craftsman Riding Mower with B&S engine. Battery went dead. Would start if being jumped from another battery. Replaced battery and it ran fine. However, two weeks later new battery would not crank unless being jumped. Do these mowers have an alternator to keep battery charged? How to I find out what is wrong?

Thanks. Mo

Yep, they have an alternator. Check the voltage at the battery with the engine at full rpm. Should be around 14.5 to 16 volts. If not, it is a charging problem and we need more info since briggs had several different charging systems. If you do have that voltage while running, you probably have a short. Let us know and we'll go from there.
