MTD lawn tractor clutch & brake inoperative

MTD Model 13A66736118 15.5 HP 42" deck when mowing I tried to stop & clutch & brake had no effect, tried to shift to neutral, but kept going. Replaced all belts & still has same problem. If trans is in neutral & engine started it's O K until put trans in reverse & it goes forward & no clutch or brake action !

Does the variator move when you push the clutch? It goes forward when you put it in reverse??

It is common to have the pedal that operates the clutch/ brake to have a spring in series with the linkage that operates these functions. Have someone operate the brake/clutch pedal while you look under the chassis on the right hand side to see if the spring or its linkage is broken. WITH THE ENG OFF OF COURSE.
