How many hours will a factory refrub generator last ?
I just purchased a factory refurb GeneracXP8000E when I opened it up I noticed it already had 86 hrs on it. I know that how long anything last is dependent on maintenance, operating conditions, etc. But I am just curious on average how long do these portable generators last and how many more hours can I expect to get out of this one. I wouldn't expect to put more than 40 hrs a year on it for residential power outages from storms.

Either drain the fuel and run it until the fuel in the carb runs out, or get some Stabil and add to the fuel for extended storage.
As for the generator, keep it in a dry and non corrosive atmosphere and at 40 hrs avg per season, it will serve you for many years. I would recommend that you start and let it run for a few minutes with a light load such as a hand held power tool, to restore the magnetism in the rotor.

I myself and am trying to figure out how long an air cooled engine running a generator can last. I have a Honda EU3000 (a 3'000 watt portable generator) that I figure is somewhere between 1'500 and 2'000 hours. It has gotten a little harder to start in the past couple years but it just keeps on going. So, I would have to say that you can thank the previous owners for getting part of the break-in out of the way for you.
