i want to get up to date motor

Hi,I have a montgomery ward/power plus front tine tiller,power kraft briggs & stratton 5hp 206cc egine,model#130202,type 0135-11,code 80081207.I was using it a few days ago and heard something in the machine make a loud snap then the machine cut off,and when I pull the cord to start it has no resistance on it I can turn it easily with my hands and it just spins and I was wondering could it have been the shaft inside that snapped it's pretty old and who ever had it may not have been maintaining it,I was wondering what that noise could have been. And if possible what up to date engine would fit this machine.Thank you for your advice.

 

First I would remove the shroud and see if the pull cord assembly is OK to make sure is not a broken ratchet in the pull cord/starter. If that's OK I'd look at the flywheel to see if the key between the flywheel and crank snapped. It's a very inexpensive part.
