trans problem
Noticed that my tranny on Yardman was making a whining sound, got to where I was having to hold the lever in place for it to continue forward, then eventually just stopped, no forward of backwards, try to force it, it trys to kill engine and whines louder
Mower Model 13BX694G401
Trans model 918-0255A.
is it repairable, or should I just junk it?
thanks for any feed back

I moved this post to a thread of it's own instead of tagged onto a 10 year old thread.
It's an MTD, and I don't usually suggest spending much on repairing one. You might check to be sure the brake hasn't stuck, but I doubt it could stick enough to kill the engine. You might try to pick up a good used tranny if you want to fix it, but I probably wouldn't personally try to tear into the unit to fix it.

Hello kahoots,
I agree with Mr. Cheese here.....
From your description you would be looking at;
1) Drive shaft
2) Drive shaft bushings
2) Bevel gears
1) Shift collar (possibly)
1) Pinion gear
2) Pinion shaft bearings
1) Pinion shaft (possibly)
That's without knowing the condition of the case halves (where drive shaft bushings ride) or differential, which if worn/bad would defiantly render the trans not worth the cost of repair....
