I figured it out. The rubber stop on the fuel solenoid was working itself loose somehow. So even though it was working, it was still extending too far and not allowing fuel to pass through no matter what position it was in. I pulled the rubber plug off the end of the solenoid and it started up and ran good. What happens if I just leave that off? Will it affect anything not having that shut off when the key is off?

It won't hurt anything. It is there to keep it from backfiring when you shut it off. If you experience backfires when you shut it off, before shutting it down, let it run at idle a short while to cool the exhaust off and slow the engine down, then shut it off.
