Craftsman mower won't pull itself

Guys, I have a craftsman 5.5hp 22" walk-behind mower that suddenly became a push mower. Belt is a bit tattered but not broken. When engaging the drive, the belt doesnt turn. Cant really see what the belt is attached to on the engine..
Model 9197379090. Appreciate any tips.

Sounds like the belt came off of the engine pulley.

I thought that too, but the belt is attached/around something in the engine. Won't pull out. So dang dark in there, can't get a good look at it until tomorrow.

The crankshaft is still going through the belt. Take the cover off underneath and see.
