John Deere LA115
Hello Gentlemen,
I have a John deere LA115 that all of a sudden is using oil. Can't find any external leaks what so ever. Any suggestion on this? Engine is BS 19.5 Model-31P677
Thanks in advance

Most likely it is a blown head gasket. Common problem on this engine. A leakdown test will confirm.

Heat, age, and design. It blows in a thin area of the gasket between the cylinder and push rod chamber.

You were correct
Cheese you were right on the money, it was a head gasket. I guess you get what you pay for buying the LA model John Deere mowers. Thought it would be better quality with the name.
Thanks

Nah. Briggs and stratton builds the engine and it goes on all sorts of homeowner quality mowers. Just because it says Deere doesn't mean it's any better. Deere does make some high quality mowers, but don't think you'll get one at Lowes or for the same price as the rest of the mowers out there. It's like chevy... you've got chevettes and you've got corvettes, and everything in between.

John Deere LA115 stalls when mowing hills
My JD LA115 19.5 Hp mower stalls when mowing slight hills (horizontal) and will not start again for hours after being moved to a level surface. What could cause this problem?

Does it have spark when it dies and won't restart? Mowing on hills can increase the engine temp and a coil close to the point of failing can cut out at higher temps.
