Crankshaft fixable?
I have a 20 hp kohler courage verticle shaft sv470 (blown) tore it down to the crank shaft and it is stuck/burnt into the base of the engine. I tried to tap it out and it wouldnt come out, I dont want to beat it out and mushroom it. What should I do? I got 1 guy saying take it to a machine shop to get it bored out and put it back together, 1 guy saying to buy a new crank shaft, and 1 guy saying the engine is useless. What do you say?

Hello masazasm,
This guy is on the money, If the crank is so galled to the lower bearing/bushing that you can't tap it out the crank AND block is useless.
A shortblock engine or complete engine is in order.
Good Luck

Agreed. By the time you get a crank, sump cover, rod, piston, rings, gaskets, and whatever else wore out of spec when the engine ran out of oil, you will have the price of a new engine into putting together a worn out engine that will probably never be right.
