Craftsman 46" Lawn Tractor Steering Problem

My Craftsman 46" Lawn Tractor Model No. 917.272190, steering was slipping badly. I ordered all new steering parts. I dropped the deck and have removed the four bolts holding the steering bracket. I have taken the drag link off. How do I remove the Pittman Shaft from the bracket and the pittman arm bearing, sector gear and shaft support. I have the assembly loose but the pittman shaft will not pull out. I don't want to pry too hard and break something. Thanks

Once you have the assembly out of the mower, take the clip (#8) off the shaft. Then the shaft should slide out of the other parts. If not, soak the area where it goes through the gear with penetrating oil and tap it out if it will. I have had to use an impact hammer, and there were one or two that I had to heat red hot to get off.

Mine is a 271031 and I can't get the steering extension (#44) off of the shaft(#17).
I bought the entire steering kit assembly (#62) Sears # 167902 and have the 4 bolts off the bottom and have the drag link off the front spindle (because I couldn't get to the Pittman bolt very easily).
My main problem is the extension shaft won't come up, off the main shaft. It seems loose side to side. Lightly banging isn't helping and I can't see how to get a bearing puller on to it.
Any suggestions?

Put the steering wheel back on it and turn it. The extension will turn and come off the shaft.
