portable generator leaking gas

I have a Lowes portable generator. I've used it several times and no problem. Last time I used it, my son left the gas valve in the "on" position when we shut it off. It stood for several hours and when we needed to use it again it was dripping gas out of the carburator. I expected it was flooded, but the dripping continues even after we tried to crank it a few times. Only way I can get it to stop is turn the gas valve off. Any idea what I can do to stop it from leaking?? Thanks

Lowe's sells various brands of generators although I don't recall any with a Lowe's brand name.

Please give the make, model, size (wattage) and it will be easier for someone here to assist you.

The carburetor needle valve is leaking. Could be a bad float, trash in the carb, and/or bad needle/seat. What engine is on it?
