Craftsman YTS3000 Rider Troubles

The tractor has a Briggs and Stratton 21 Hp engine. I was running the tractor the other day with no blades engaged or hauling anything. I lifted off the seat slightly and it backfired. Right after that it started running horribly. It kind of sputters like it is running out of gas but it is not. If i throttle down at all the engine shuts off. If anyone could give some suggestions before I contact a repair shop I would be extemely greatful.

The backfire could have upset something in the carb, causing your problems, or you might just check the spark plugs. It could be that a piece of carbon came loose and is in the gap or the insulator broke.

Craftsman rider - no spark

Craftsman 917-271011 rider with a Kohler 15.5 hp engine. This has the "C" operator presence system with two relays. I cannot get spark at the plug. If I unhook the kill wire from the coil I get spark. Plug it back in no spark. I have tried changing both relays and still no spark. I have the parking brake locked on. I can hear the fuel solenoid clicking when I turn the key. I have tested the seat switch off the tractor with a multimeter and it tests ok although the parking brake being set should override the seat switch. Where else should I be checking - thank you in advance. Just a note here -- I did not use the 109748x relays, I went to autozone and picked up two generic type five pin relays. Yardman (MTD) ym400 trimmer problems

Hello, I have a ym400 trimmer and the last time I used it, the starter rope broke on me when I tried to start it. I found a new rope, wound everything back up, and tested the recoil before putting everything back together. I can pull freely and the rope rewinds itself back up. After putting everything back together, it sometimes sounds like the plastic teeth on the recoil pulley assembly aren't grabbing the flywheel. 1 out of every 7-10 pulls of the rope will pull normally and try to start the engine, all others will sound like the flywheel isn't being engaged. The teeth on the recoil pulley assembly look a little wore down, but honestly the new ones don't look that much better. I never had this issue before the rope broke... Could I have re-assembled this incorrectly? Did I miss a step, or do I just need to replace the Recoil Pulley Assembly as well?Read More
