MTD starter removal

I have a Ranch King 18/46 lawn tractor with a Briggs & Stratton 18 HP and need to know how to remove the starter for repair. Not knowing, it looks like I need to remove the fly wheel and I'm hoping there's a way without doing this. I only see one bolt to the right of the starter and two on top and one's under the fly wheel. Please help.
Thanks,
keeze

I do it often with just a 1/2" open end wrench. Break it loose with a box-end wrench, then take the bolt out the rest of the way with the open end.

Thanks,
So, there's only one bolt, the one to the upper right of the starter and that releases it?

No, there are 2 like you saw, one of them under the flywheel... those are the only 2.

a curved box end wrench used on car starters may help too.

No. Removing the black tin covering the head will help though.

Thanks guys, I got her out. There was room under the fly wheel to get the bolt up and out of the bracket.
