stihl fs 66 string trimmer with problems

Hi everyone I just bought a used stihl fs 66 string trimmer with a few problems. First the trimmer looks like in a few spots that its been ran over as the fuel tank has a small crack on top and the other side support of the tank is broke off. I'm fine for now with the support broke but the crack is leaking.

Second the throttle cable was broken an inch above the adjustment nuts by the carb end. So I replaced the entire cable with an throttle cable from a bicycle and it fits fine but now the cable does not retract after being pulled.I'm not sure If its the plastic tube the cable is in or the spring on the carb. Could this be fixed with another spring or do I have to buy a new assembly from stihl?

After all this and having to clean the carb to get it going i'm starting to think If it's worth it or not.

The retracting strength of the stuff on a bicycle would be a lot stronger that that on the trimmer. You're better off on that subject with the Stihl replacement parts. Still you have the gas tank leaking which could be sealed with some tank sealant for automotive tanks from an auto parts store. That may take care of that problem.

All in all, unless they paid you to take the trimmer, you may be behind on the deal.

Is there a specific brand that you could recommend for the tank sealant?

I never had much luck using any kind of glue/resin sealant to repair plastic tanks. Pick up a used one on ebay or whatever it takes to replace it IMO.

transaxle fluid?

i have a 04 craftsman 20hp lawn tractor. i overheated the trany pulling an aerator. it runs ok now that it has cooled down, but i lost some fluid when it overheated. it actually melted the vent tube. i removed the rearend, and i want to change the fluid. i cant find info on the type and amount of fluid to put in it. the manual says 80w90 for the gearbox, but nothing about the trany?? i read a post from peerless that said to use Mobil 424 but no amount. its a 2000-002B peerless Tecumseh , the label on the trany says 6845p91 and there is a stamping on it that says 6733P1 (R) any help is appreciated. McCulloch Mac 2816 weed wacker - should I try to get it to run smooth?

I have a Mac 2816 weed wacker that on the web, says it's from 1996. Haven't used it hardly at all for years. Needed it this week. Started it up and after lots of priming, pulling, playing with choke, it runs at idle at 1/2 choke. Looking on the web, it says it's a carb problem. I know just enough to be dangerous. Took off the carb and used carb cleaner (some website said you aren't supposed to use carb cleaner on 2 stroke carbs?!). The gas lines are dried out. So I got some from home depot. Will think about putting it back together tomorrow after I hear from you guys. If it doesn't start, I was going to get a carb repair kit with all the diaphrams, etc. Does it pay? Are there other things on an 16 year old weed wacker that should have been taken care of / could cost me? Or just sell it for parts / as is on craigslist and buy a new one?
