Kohler Pro 16hp volve noise???

Hi, ya'll... I'm new here...

Here's the deal... I have a 15-20 year old Craftsman riding mower with said Kohler Pro 16 hp engine with hydraulic lifters... Last year they got real loud so I pulled it down and put new lifters in it... It was better after that... Now I've got about 6 hours on it since then and the noise is bak... Yes, I did change the oil and using straight 20 weight...

Even though it is my backup beater I'd like to keep it in decent running condition so...

...any ideas short of shooting it???

Use 10W-30 oil. The lifters sometimes leak down over long periods of non-use or in cold weather and take a while to pump back up tight ... usually not until a good while after operating temp has been reached. I assume since it's your "backup beater", it sits for periods of time without getting used.
