9 hp hoda engine

9 hp hoda engine

i have a 9hp honda engine that will only run with choke on it runs great like this but after letting warm up 30 seconds take choke of it stalls will not start again unless choke is on changed plug new gas new oil engine is about 3 years old

The carburetor needs cleaning.

What Cheese said. Generally just spraying cleaner into the carb does not work. Usually you must remove it from the engine and give it a soak in cleaner and blow out the jets and passages to insure you get them clear.

You have a jet or passage in the carburetor clogged so it's not delivering enough fuel making the mixture too lean for the engine to run. Closing the choke enrichens the mixture by partially blocking the intake cutting down on the amount of air the engine can take. The engine will run with the choke on but it cannot make full power and since it's running rich may foul the spark plug with prolonged use.
