9 hp craftsman snow blower - needs new engine

I have a 9 hp 29 inch craftsman snow blower - model # 536-887995
The engine has seized. Craftsman no longer makes this engine.
What replacement can I use?

Please look for model number on engine and then it will make it easier for you/us to make a determination on motor replacement. Please post engine model number.

It may be worthwhile to open the engine up to see exactly what is wrong with the engine. I don't know that your level of expertise is, or how much time you might have to expend on it, but you have not much to loose, because if indeed it is repairable, it will last longer than most replacement small engines made today. There are plenty of sites with small engine parts, even Tecumseh parts.

Auger doesn't turn

My ariens model 924028 snow blower augers aren't spinning. The blower in the housing is spinning but not the augers. Both shear pins are fine that was the first thing i checked. I found one post about an MTD blower with this problem and was wondering if that would be the same fix for mine. The auger spins freely by hand and you can see that the shaft it is attached to is alsoo spinning with the auger.Read More

Snowblower And Impeller Problem ? Or,...?

Hi, My son has a 6 yr old typical Ariens 2-stage snowblower. He doesn't live in my area, but I am hoping to help him out diagnosing a problem that has developed. Starts right up, and engine runs normally. Auger turns as it should. But, as soon as he moves it any amount, the chute just clogs right up. He clears the chute, moves it again, and again an immediate clog.. Snow has been reasonably dry, so not what you would expect, e.g., with really wet snow. Almost sounds to me that the "high-speed" Impeller is not turning as it normally should, due to perhaps becoming disconnected from the shaft that turns it (and apparently the auger, via the gearbox), and the auger is just pushing the snow into the chute where it is not being pushed out by the Impeller, and clogs right up. What do you think ? Other possibilities ? Is this something that is a common problem in 6 yr old machines ? Easy to fix ? Thanks, and Happy New Years', BobRead More
