Craftsman rider starts, races, then stalls out....

I have an older 30" 13.5hp mid-engine mower, model 536-270211, used to run perfect but this season, it will fire up, motor will race a bit even with the throttle down and after about 8-10sec, dies with a small amount of light colored smoke... fuel is new, gas cap is venting well, no problem in the fuel lines or filter (flows good), air filter is clean. Any ideas?!?!

Sounds like the carburetor is in need of cleaning.

well no fun.... open up the Carb, cleaned it up really nice, new gaskets, clean jets. it will now idle as long as the choke is on, as soon as I drop it into fast or slow it sputters and dies... this is getting annoying.

The nut that holds the float bowl on is more than likely plugged up,,,it is also a jet,,clean out all the holes and try it again. There also could be a little jet on the side of the main jet passage,,check and make sure it is open. Good luck

Yep. It's still clogged. Some of those holes can be really hard to see if they're clogged up.
