Crankcase filled with gas

Hi All, I took my lawn tractor out of storage as I normally do this time of year I changed the oil before I put it away last fall and filled the gas tank with gas and Stabil as I have always done,when I checked the oil and the crankcase was full of gas,how could this happen?I have drained the CC refilled with fresh oil and installed a shut off valve in the gas line ,engine is now running fine.

Normally when you put gas powered equipment away for the winter you'd want to remove the gas from the tank. At the minimum you'd want to turn the gas supply off and run the fuel out of the carburetor. If you left fuel in the carb then it probably started to evaporate and gel up. The float probably got stuck open and the gas was just draining thru the carb into the cylinder and then into the oil pan.

Thanks, that's what I thought,this tractor never had a shut off but it dose now.

At least you changed the oil before starting the engine......no damage done.

Kohler 41508 with Nikki carb

Hi, If you remember from another post I have this kohler cv15s engine with a nikki carb that runs rich, I would like to either replace the main jet or put a whole kit in it, but cannot find a specific kit for the carb. The one I do find is part number 12 757 03 5...I believe this is for the walbro carb and it does not come with main jet. The high altitude kit does, but again probably for the walbro. Are these kits the same for either carb??? And another question, is there something else on this engine that might cause the motor to run rich when given a slight load/change in throttle position? It will run fine if the throttle is feathered up or down but if you change it quick or put a load on it it will start running rich :confused: I know I could/should just get another carb with adjustable main/idle jets but there goes the budget. lawn tractor blades wont engage

I have a craftsman ys4500 lawn tractor., its 6 years old. after first post winter run the blades are not engaging correct. I just changed the belts and same issue. So when I moved the mowing lever(to engage the blades) it used to make a thud and vibrate a touch and you knew the blades were engaged. I distinct thud and there was no question the blades were spinning it was like driving a tank with the blades spinning. Now the blades do spin but no thud at all its whisper quiet and the blades spin up and sound like a washer machine on the spin cycle. no vibration at all I cant tell there even spinning unless I look under it.
