Have you been doing any work on it?

What does the fluid look like?

Is your tractor gas or diesel (3 or 4 cylinder)?

Was it getting a bit jerky or unresponsive before it stopped working completely? If so, I would suspect that the transmission is due or past due for an oil and filter change, as opposed to a mechanical failure. There is a lot going on in there, and shavings, even from the time of manufacture, can continue to float around in there for a long time before accumulating in the filters or screens. If it is up to par in regard to this mainetenance, then I probably would be looking at the rock shaft control valve. Particularly if this is the case, you will probably want to get your hands on a manual, because there are undoubtedly bypass valves, etc. in that system, any of which may have a burr in them.

I'd get a repair manual if you don't already have one. Tractor Supply sells them along with a host of online vendors. Have you checked the fluid level? When was the last time the lift worked?
