John Deere Sabre was running fine, stopped and won't start

My John Deere Sabre 1538 is about 14 years old. It started this year with no problems.

I was using it for a while (1-2 hours) without issue. I was occassionally starting and stopping the blades when moving to a new area of the lawn. About an 1 or 2 after using it I stopped to refill the gas.

After refueling, I started it, I engaged the blades and it stopped running. I restarted it engaged the blades again and it ran fine. I cut a small area and shut off the blades.

I moved to a new section of the lawn, engaged the blades and it was running fine for about 10-15 mins then suddenly stopped. From that point I cannot restart it.

It turns when I try to start it, but it won't kick over.

- the gas is new
- I checked the fuel lines and the gas is flowing freely so nothing's clogged
- I checked the spark plug and it's dry.
- the air filter looks clean
- at quick look the belts "seem" to be OK, but I don't think that would prevent
it from starting

Any suggestions on what to check or recheck?

Time to pull of the carberator and clean it and rebuild it.
If it has a fuel pump remove the line from the carberator and turn it over to make sure it's pumping gas to the carberator.

Time to bring it to a repair shop then. I was hoping it was something easy I could check and fix.

Thanks

Hard to know what happened. Maybe some trash or water got picked up in the carb, or maybe the fuel pump quit, or the filter clogged, or flywheel key sheared... Is there fuel in the carb bowl?
